i. Booking & appointments

Booking & appointments.

All appointments at Edit. start with a chat and a consultation, never a guess.

01How do I book an appointment?

The easiest way is to email me or send a text on 027 525 9749. Tell me roughly what you're after — colour, a refresh, hair-loss support, MoH appointment — and I'll come back with a couple of times.

For colour and any first appointment we'll always start with a short consultation, either in person or over the phone, before I quote a final time and price.

02Do I need a consultation before my first appointment?

Yes — for any colour service or hair-loss appointment, a consultation comes first. It's free, takes about 20 minutes, and means we both walk into the appointment with the same picture in our heads.

For a simple cut or blow-dry, we can usually skip this and book straight in.

03What's your cancellation policy?

Life happens — please just let me know. 48 hours' notice is plenty for me to fill the spot. Same-day cancellations or no-shows may incur a 50% booking fee, simply because longer appointments are hard to backfill on the day.

04What payment methods do you accept?

Eftpos, all major cards, and bank transfer. There's a small surcharge on credit-card payments. Cash works too if that's easier.

05Can I bring a friend or my child to the appointment?

Of course — especially for hair-loss or wig appointments where a second pair of eyes really helps. The studio is a quiet, private space, so I'd ask that you only bring children if they can sit comfortably for an hour or two.

ii. Colour & blonde work

Colour & blonde work.

Honest answers about the things that affect a great colour result.

01I've coloured my own hair at home — can you still help?

Almost always, yes. I'd just rather know about it before we start than discover it half-way through. Box dye and salon colour behave differently when we lift them, so we'll talk through what's been on the hair, when, and what's realistic for the first appointment.

Sometimes the right answer is to stage the journey across two visits. We'll sort that at consultation.

02How long should I leave between colour appointments?

It depends on the service and how fast your hair grows, but as a rough guide:

Foils: 8–14 weeks. Root retouch: 4–6 weeks. Toner refresh: 6–8 weeks. Balayage: 12–20 weeks.

If you're not sure, I'll suggest a rebook time at the basin.

03Will my hair be damaged by lightening?

Lightening is always a chemical process, but a good colourist looks after the hair on the way through. I use bond-builders in every lift, weigh my developer carefully, and won't push the hair past where it's healthy that day. We'll always stop short of damage, even if that means staging the journey.

04What products do you recommend at home?

I'll always send you home with a personal recommendation rather than a generic shopping list. As a rule: a sulphate-free shampoo, a weekly bond or moisture mask, and a heat protectant if you style with heat. We'll talk through what's worth the money for your hair specifically.

iii. Hair-loss support

Hair-loss support.

A private space to take this slowly. There are no silly questions in this section.

01I'm losing my hair — where do I even start?

Start with a phone call or email. We don't need to make any decisions on the first conversation — most people just want to know what their options look like.

From there we'll book a private consultation in the studio, take a look together, and talk through what you'd like to feel like by the end.

02What's the difference between a topper, a wig and extensions?

Extensions add length or thickness to your existing hair, and need a healthy attachment area.

Toppers sit on top of the head and clip in — perfect for thinning at the crown or part-line while keeping the hair around the sides.

Wigs cover the full head, and are usually the right answer when most or all of the hair has gone. We can fit any of the three; the consultation is where we figure out which.

03Will it look obvious?

That's exactly the question we work to answer at consultation. Modern toppers and wigs — particularly with hand-tied tops and hair-line lace — are quietly remarkable, and most clients tell me that nobody at work or home has noticed the change.

Colour-matching is part of the service. I'll match to your existing hair tones, or we can take the opportunity to shift the look slightly if you'd like.

04Can I bring someone with me?

Please do. A partner, a parent, a friend, a daughter — whoever helps you feel grounded. The studio is private and quiet, and you're welcome to take as long as you need.

iv. Ministry of Health wig subsidy

The MoH wig subsidy.

Edit. is an approved Ministry of Health wig subsidy provider. Here's how it works.

01Am I eligible for the subsidy?

The subsidy supports New Zealanders experiencing significant hair loss for medical reasons — including alopecia, chemotherapy, trichotillomania and certain genetic conditions. Eligibility is decided by the Ministry of Health, not by me.

To start the process you'll usually need a referral or letter from your specialist, GP or nurse. I'm happy to help you understand what to ask for.

Approved provider
02How much does the subsidy cover?

The current Ministry of Health contribution is paid annually toward the cost of your wig or hair piece. The exact figure changes from time to time — I'll give you the current numbers at consultation, alongside the price of the piece you're considering, so you know exactly what's covered and what isn't.

03Do I have to pay anything up front?

For approved subsidy clients, the subsidy is applied against your invoice — you only pay any difference above the subsidy amount, plus any optional add-ons (custom colour-match, extra fitting time, etc.). I'll always make this transparent in writing before we order anything.

04Can I bring my own wig to be fitted or styled?

Absolutely. Plenty of clients come to me with a wig they've bought themselves and want help making it sit right — fringe, layers, density at the part-line. I'll book this as a styling appointment rather than under the subsidy.

Not sure where to start?

If you think you might be eligible but the paperwork feels like a maze, drop me a line and I'll walk you through the steps in plain language — no booking required.

v. The studio

About the studio.

A few practical things about visiting Edit. for the first time.

01Where is the studio?

Edit. is a private home-based studio in Glenview, Hamilton. Because it's a home address, the exact location is shared once your appointment is confirmed. There's free off-street parking right at the studio.

02Is it accessible?

The studio entrance is step-free and on the ground floor. If you have specific access needs — mobility, a support animal, sensory considerations — please let me know when you book and we'll make it work.

03Is the studio private?

Yes. I see one client at a time. There's no waiting room full of strangers, no walk-in traffic, and no salon signage at the gate — most clients tell me that's one of the reasons they chose Edit. in the first place.

Still wondering?

Couldn't find your question?

Send a message — there's no such thing as a silly one. I'll come back to you within a day, and there's no expectation that you book.
